ELLE BEAUTY SCHOOL - MAKEUP Foundation

Hello! I recently bought ELLE'S Beauty Book 2013 and I found that they have various tips and ideas that I can learn from and I thought, 'Why keep it all to myself?? Why not share!', so yes, here is a series of short posts filled with ideas from the book!

These expert tips and tricks will help to get you looking 24/7! It also includes the hottest techniques to make your favorite beauty look on-trend!

Enjoy! :)
'Everything begins with the foundation. Start with a good base to build a perfect canvas.'
Tip #01 - CONCEALER AFTER FOUNDATION.
Always apply concealer after foundation as the foundation will help to prevent the concealer from 'sliding' off the blemish that requires covering. So, apply foundation where needed, then with a concealer brush or any small flat brush, dab concealer onto the blemish. Then, using your ring finger, blend the edges till smooth. Dust on a little loose powder to finish!

Tip #02 - COVER ONLY WHERE NECESSARY.
Only apply foundation where you need coverage - like the T-zone, which includes your forehead, nose and chin. And always start with a little, and then build on more coverage. The goal is to allow your natural skin to show through. If your skin is red and patchy, use a makeup base or primer before foundation application to even out your skin tone first.

Tip #03 - GO NATURAL.
Want the barest of coverage? Mix a dollop of liquid foundation with your regular moisturizer, and apply. Use a foundation brush for that flawless glow. And forget powder too. But if you do tend to shine, dust a little loose powder over the T-zone area -  forehead, nose and chin, to help absorb excess sebum so that the skin will stay dewy-fresh, without looking dull and cake-y.

For a dewy look, the suggested foundations are

Tom Ford Timeless Foundation SPF15, $120

Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Éclat, $70

Shiseido Sheer and Perfect Foundation, $56

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, $78

While for a matte look, the suggested foundations are

Shu Uemura Dual-Fit Powder, $85

Sephora 8-Hr Wear Mattifying Compact Foundation, $19

Lancôme Mat Miracle 24-Hr, $66

Diorskin Forever Extreme Control Compact Powder, $90

In order to achieve a FLAWLESS FINISH, pat liquid foundation onto the areas you need coverage, in small movements . Then, gently blend to smooth it all out.

Hope you learnt something new! All ideas and tips come from ELLE Beauty Book 2013 and I claim no credit for them though I may have rephrased some sentences! :)

Cheers.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I normally apply foundation to my whole face but now I know that I only have to apply it to certain areas!
